residential condominium - city approvals phase

In collaboration with KPMB Architects, Studio VAARO was commissioned to design the envelope for a 30 storey residential tower.

What from a distance appears to be a straight-forward grid is in fact a stacked composition of vertical columns and horizontal slabs. Each floor slab extends beyond the glazing line to provide visual depth and solar shading to the envelope. The columns provide a regular, vertical division of the building facades while also informing the interior unit layouts and partitions. The outer face of each column is cut back at an angle, with the inflection changing from level to level. This subtle surface articulation generates a dynamic shadow play that adds richness and depth to the facade.
